76thg7 : CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A proposal to create a "In God We Trust" license plate for West Virginia motorists has been scrapped.
House Roads and Transportation Chairman Dale Martin said the plate was contained in a piece of legislation that became too cumbersome to handle.
The Putnam County Democrat said other lawmakers wanted to add a host of special plates to the measure including those the reflected the motorist was a Friend of Coal, a real estate agent, nurse or worked at a particular hospital.
Martin said lawmakers agreed to study the issue over the summer and may reconsider the bill next year.
One area of review will be whether the Division of Motor Vehicles can approve special plates without requiring legislative action. |
